The role of mud additives used in oil drilling
When drilling for oil, the mud used has three functions：
The first is to suspend the rock particles that are constantly broken by the drill bit and return to the ground with the mud, so that the drilling continues.；
The second is that when there are signs of a blowout, a larger proportion of mud can be used to press the well to prevent the blowout (its pressure and formation pressure play a balancing role)；
Third, when entering the destination layer, light mud can be used to circulate to prevent the cracks in the destination layer from being clogged and to prepare for increased production by fracturing.
